Use of Steel Formwork for Column

Features of Steel Formwork for Column

Steel formwork for column is made from sturdy industrial steel plates. Due to the durability of the steel material, it is widely used in the construction of bridge piers and columns for supporting buildings. Many tourist attractions also rely on columns made using steel formwork for column as structural supports.

Steel formwork for column needs to withstand significant amounts of concrete pressure. Compared to plastic formwork, plastic formwork cannot endure the pressure from large volumes of concrete during pouring. Therefore, steel formwork is chosen for making cylindrical columns. The process of producing columns using formwork is straightforward—templates are made according to customer specifications, and the necessary construction tools are transported to the site for on-site concrete pouring to form the columns.

Due to the large volume of the column, pre-fabricated production methods are typically used. However, transporting pre-fabricated columns to the construction site is inconvenient, so on-site pouring methods are more commonly employed. As long as proper care is taken during the handling and transportation of the formwork, it can be used for an extended period. Daily inspections of the formwork during production and usage are necessary to promptly identify any issues with the steel formwork for column and address them accordingly.

Usage of Steel Formwork for Column

The usage method of steel formwork for column involves the following steps:

  • Preparation: Check that the steel formwork for column is clean, ensuring there is no dirt, impurities, or rust. Prepare the necessary tools, such as screwdrivers and wrenches.

  • Assembling the Formwork: Place the steel formwork for column flat and align the screw holes on the edges. Use screws to fix and connect the pieces. Ensure that the formwork is vertical and stable.

  • Applying Release Agent: Apply a release agent to the inner surface of the formwork to reduce the adhesion between the formwork and cement, making the demolding process easier.

  • Pouring Cement: Pour the cement into the formwork until the required height is reached. Ensure that the cement is evenly distributed and free of air bubbles.

  • Vibrating Cement: Use a vibrator or vibrating rod to vibrate the cement, ensuring it is compacted. Avoid excessive vibration that could cause cement separation.

  • Waiting for Demolding: Once the cement has reached a sufficient strength, demolding can begin. First, remove the screws along the edges, then gently tap the outer side of the formwork to separate the cement from the formwork.

  • Cleaning the Formwork: Clean the remaining cement from the steel formwork for column to prepare it for the next use. Scrapers, brushes, or other tools can be used for cleaning.

  • Storing the Formwork: Store the steel formwork for column in a dry, level area to prevent rusting from exposure to sunlight and rain.
